CRAIG WADDELL
THE LITTLE DIGGERS |
||
Using childhood toys as conceptual tools for a range of experimental works based on the manifestation of memory has led Waddell into a realm of sculptural construction and progressive installation done in collaberation with his wife, artist Jessie Cacchillo. Tractor Trees, are constructed by applying thick layers of dripping, tutti frutt icoloured paint and melted plastic with a palette knife. This is built up and hardened over an armature of polystrofoam, resin or plaster cast forms. Disturbing, yet beautiful and fascinating in their appearance, these newly constructed objects slur together to make artworks alive with arrested movement. The vivid, blob like colours create a vulnerable mass of raw muscle like portraits whose epidermis has been stripped away.
